Cikarang Listrindo Distributes Clean Water to Remote Villages in NTT
Public News|October 17, 2022
Jakarta, October 17, 2022 - PT Cikarang Listrindo Tbk (IDX: POWR) with Solar Chapter Madison, carried out the construction of water infrastructure for villagers in Sodana Village, on last 14-19 August 2022.
Carrying the spirit of ‘Powering Goodness’, this program is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of people in remote areas of Indonesia.
Sodana Village is one of many villages in West Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), that is experiencing water shortages due to the climate and lack of supporting infrastructure.
The location of the village is classified as a remote village, isolated from most of the crowd centers and transportation connection points. In fact, the distance from the village to the capital of West Sumba Regency, Waikabubak City, is about 20 km with a distance of about one hour.
"This village consists of around 600 residents, most of the people make living as farmers, where the availability of water is a major factor for the livelihood of the villagers," wrote an official statement quoted Monday (17/10).
Due to the dry geographical conditions and quite low average annual rainfall, the residents of Sodana Village have to walk about five km to the nearest clean water source due to a lack of infrastructure, therefore the daily activities of all residents are quite disrupted.
Hence, Desa Sodana was chosen by this partnership to support its infrastructure.
Together with Solar Chapter Madison, a non-profit organization with the young generation of the Indonesian nation to contribute to the Indonesian people in need in a sustainable manner, Cikarang Listrindo built a water pump with a capacity of 5 m3 of water per hour.
As the driving force, the water pump uses renewable energy, in the form of 24 Solar Power Plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 330 Wp.
Through this infrastructure, it is hoped that the Sodana villagers will easily have an access to clean water from the three public taps provided. Apart from that, the lifestyle of the villagers will also be better, because they will have more time to do positive and quality activities.
"Through this program, we believe it will have a positive impact on other issues such as children's education, domestic violence, malnutrition, and poverty that helps achieve the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 2 (No Hunger), No. 3 (Good Health and Welfare), No. 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and No. 8 (Economic Growth and Decent Work) which are also the focus of the Company's SDGs," explained the official statement.
Furthermore, Cikarang Listrindo together with Solar Chapter Madison will also continue to supervise the facility. This step is to ensure that the facility gets regular maintenance from a monthly fee collected from each Sodana Village family.
The hope is that this arrangement will also instill a sense of ownership and responsibility of the villagers toward the facility. This will be the first step for Sodana Village to become an independent village and slowly be able to solve the challenges of the village in the future.
