Overcoming Clean Water Crisis, Solar Chapter Builds Solar-Powered Water Pumps in Naisau, East Nusa Tenggara

February 16, 2024 - The issue of a clean water crisis remains a daunting challenge faced by Indonesia to this day. In the village of Naisau, Sasitamean District, Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, for example, for decades, the community had to walk across steep hills carrying jerry cans for 2 km every day just to reach a clean water source.
In addition to walking, the people of Naisau had another option to access clean water, to buy 2-3 water tanks for Rp 175,000 each per week, which is not cost-effective as the income of the community only touches the figure of Rp 600,000 per month.
To address this issue, various parties collaborated in building around 16 solar-powered water pumps in East Nusa Tenggara since 2017. The construction was carried out by the Solar Chapter Indonesia Foundation branch in Melbourne, residents of the Naisau Village, PT Cikarang Listrindo Tbk, Trisula Corporation, Behn Meyer Group, and technicians from Sans Power, implemented from January 10-15, 2024.
Naisau Village became the village that initiated the solar-powered clean water pump construction project in 2024. Now, the residents of Naisau Village have access to clean water pumped using solar power, flowing to the Bak Reservoir in Naisau Village. This efficient water pump system can distribute 3800 liters of water per hour and is powered by 14 solar panels, each with a capacity of 545 watts-peak, producing a total output of 7650 watts-peak, supported by Sans Power.
The water is pumped through an 800-meter-long pipeline to the village using Vinilon PN16 pipes to serve more than 500 households in Naisau Village.
"Being able to participate in the implementation in Naisau Village with Solar Chapter is a very valuable experience. Hopefully, what we have built together can make the lives of the people in Naisau Village more productive and prosperous," said Trisula Corporation representative Orlando Oktavianus in a press release on Friday (2/16/2024).
Representative of PT Cikarang Listrindo Tbk, Pulung Kusumo said that this humanitarian mission is not only about building infrastructure that has become the right of every citizen but also about building a bright future for the next generation as the nation's successors.
"This project is expected to address the water crisis and is expected to provide access to clean and decent water and a more prosperous life for the people of Naisau Village," emphasized Pulung.
